The European Commission has launched a significant initiative to simplify and harmonize the regulatory framework for private nautical licenses within the European Union. Currently, this framework is fragmented due to various national regulations and influenced by a complex set of rules that restrict the free movement of boaters among EU countries.

The Commission has developed a survey aimed at all boaters and industry operators, inviting them to contribute by sharing their ideas and experiences related to existing regulations on private nautical licenses.

The main objective of this initiative is to examine the pros and cons of mutual acceptance of licenses and competencies for boaters within the EU. The goal is to establish a uniform system that facilitates the exchange of private nautical licenses among member states, thereby improving accessibility to navigation and promoting sector growth in Europe.
